Linear Formula:
GPA = (Indian CGPA / 10) × 4
(8.40 / 10) × 4 = 3.36
Note: Most US universities ask for your original transcripts directly. A WES course-by-course assessment is the only legally binding conversion.

Bavarian Grade Calculator

Convert Indian grades using the Modified Bavarian Formula utilized by German universities (where 1.0 is best and 4.0 is passing).

Modified Bavarian Formula:
Grade = 1 + 3 × [(Nmax - N) / (Nmax - Nmin)]
1 + 3 × [(10 - 8.4) / (10 - 4)] = 1.80
Note: German grades round to the nearest tenth. A score of 1.0–1.5 is excellent, 1.6–2.5 is good, and 2.6–3.5 is satisfactory.

Study Abroad Evaluation FAQ.

What is a good German Grade for TU9 admissions?

For highly competitive engineering programs at TU9 German universities (like Technical University of Munich), a German grade of **2.0 or better (closer to 1.0)** is typically required. Using the Bavarian Formula, this corresponds to an Indian CGPA of roughly **8.0+** (assuming Nmax = 10 and Nmin = 4).

Does the WES conversion look at marks or CGPA?

WES performs a subject-wise conversion. They assign US letter grades (A, B, C, D, F) to your individual subject marks rather than just scaling your overall CGPA. For example, getting 80%+ in a subject usually maps to an "A" (4.0), while 60-79% maps to a "B" (3.0).

How do I change the minimum passing mark for Bavarian calculation?

You can edit the `Nmin` field in the Bavarian calculator. For Indian universities under credit-based systems, passing marks are usually 40% (4.0 CGPA). However, for old university schemes or specific colleges, it may be 35% (3.5 CGPA) or 50% (5.0 CGPA). Adjusting this value alters the final German grade.
